LG KP 500 – Codenamed “Cookie” Launches in India

As of press releases dated 7th January 2009, the long awaited LG KP 500 – Codenamed “Cookie” has been released in India. Teasers for this action packed, yet affordable mobile phone have been appearing on YouTube for some time now, but as of the 7th we are able to see it in the flesh, so to speak, and test out the capabilities this 3 inch, or 240 x 400 touch-screen; 11.9mm slim piece of LG technology.

The LG Cookie (KP 500) retails for approximately Rs.13 200 or USD $228, and appears to be priced just right. It features a 3 megapixel camera, 1GB microSD cards (it can support upto 8 GB microSD card), 48MB internal memory, BT 2.1, FM radio, and promises a talk time of up to 7 hours.

This mobile is extremely affordable for a touch-screen phone, but any users thinking of purchasing the “Cookie” who are used to the availability of the 3G network experience will miss this capability. The “Cookie” does not have 3G HSDPA capability but what is lacks for in 3G, is made up for in style. There are both EDGE and quad-band GSM available for your convenience.

The LG Cookie makes use of a similar interface to that of the “Viewty” and it packs an accelerometer to perform auto-screen rotations. This enables the user to view documents, images and videos from any angle. The motion sensor will thrill mobile gaming lovers, as it adds a completely physical dimension to any gaming experience.

Videos may be recorded by the 3 megapixel camera on QVGA resolution at twelve frames per second, and the interface is thumb optimized. There is also a stylus neatly tucked away in the body of the phone to assist with handwriting recognition.

The QWERTY keypad is onscreen in a landscape format, and all you have to do is shake the phone to align your home screen widgest. With all these features, and at the price it is touted, the LG Cookie is bound to grab consumers’ interest.
