Again Sony Ericsson enhances its walkman series phone, and here comes the W380i, the clamshell beauty that is very sensitive. It can sense your touch and the Shake Control is also in charge. This time, the main walkman control keys are located at the front side of the external casing. The play, pause, stop, previous and next buttons are there to obey your touch, with also exposing the playing Track. The Track ID, PlayNow, Mega Bass and FM Radio heroes are also there to entertain you. Annoyed by the incoming call? Just shake the phone upward to stop the incoming alert or switch the alarm into snooze mode.

Released on March 2008, W380i is definitely stylish, available in three colors – Electric Purple, Magnetic Grey and Blushing Silver. Its size of 92 x 49 x 16 mm and weighs 100 grams are very handy and pocket-fit. It has a 1.3 MP camera which enables 4x digital zoom and picture blogging. No 3G network, only 2G network with GPRS and EDGE to support the web browsing and web feed. In case it is a walkman phone, the 1.3 MP camera is not very satisfying and also no 3D games. W380i is supported by a Li-Ion 930 mAh battery that enables up to 7 hours talktime and 300 hours standby.  However, Sony Ericsson W380i costs Rs.8,795 in India.

Sony Ericsson W660i – the perfect mixture of music, speed and elegance

Another smart 3G walkman mobile released on previous 2007 is Sony Ericsson W660i. This time the candy bar W660i has the most elegant design, slim and curved edge, with three amazing colors – Record Black, Rose Red and Silk White. Its size of 102 x 46 x 14 mm and weighs 93 grams are very handy and pocket-fit. To differ W660i from its other previous walkman mobiles, Sony Ericsson has added up a MPS-75 snap-on speaker as the accessory to be plugged in the W660i’s Fast Port Connector. Now you can hear your music out loud. Plus the Track ID, PlayNow and Mega Bass are all included. The internal memory of 512MB can store up to 470 songs, and if you choose the 1 GB MicroSD as the external memory, then another 1000 songs for you to store.

W660i has high-speed 3G connectivity to support the online features, such as email client, web browser, RSS reader and Google maps. All are supported by the NetFront, a system that helps the phone to display websites. It has a 2 inches wide display and two cameras – a 2MP camera with video recording and picture blogging, and the secondary camera above the screen for videocall. Also the FM Radio, video streaming, video clips and 3D games are there to entertain you. W660i is using a standard Li-Po 950 mAh battery which allows up to 6 hours 2G talktime, 2 hours and 30 minutes 3G talktime, 2 hours videocall, and 360 hours standby. All the music, speed and elegance only for Rs.9,995.

The ‘office-in-your-hand’ Nokia E90 Communicator

Nokia’s communicator series is the office application included series. The characteristics of a communicator are : have two screen – external screen displays usual mobile menus (message, phonebooks, camera, gallery, etc.), and internal screen displays folders for many purposes, has a numeric keypad (at external casing) and a computer keyboard / QWERTY keyboard (inside), all in flip/clamshell design.

Nokia E90 has a rectangular shape, built in size 132 x 57 x 20 mm and weighs 210 grams. It is quite a big size for a mobile phone and certainly not pocket-fit. Nokia E90 is using OS Symbian as its operating system which enables the SMS, MMS, Email (IMAP4, POP3, SMTP) and Instant Messaging. You can send SMS to many people at once which is very efficient. Video call, vibration, speakerphone and even voice recognition are also available.

Released on May 2007, Nokia E90 was the fifth generation of Nokia’s communicator and the first communicator to have HSDPA connectivity and GPS. It has 3G, GPRS, EDGE and WLAN for web browsing. Bluetooth, infrared and USB port are there for transferring files. The internal memory is 1 GB with external memory slot up to 16 GB capacity. MP3/MPEG4 player, FM Radio, and many games are there to entertain you.

Nokia E90 also has a very satisfying 3.2 MP camera with LED flash, autofocus, and video recording. The external screen is 2 inches and the internal screen is 4 inches. The flip/clamshell E90 is available in ‘Black’ and ‘Black with red frame’ colors. It is using a Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery which enables up to 5.8 hours talktime and 336 hours standby. Nokia E90 costs Rs.38,219 In India.

Powerful battery and dust-resistant Sony Ericsson J132 comes with ‘torch’

Sony Ericsson J132 which is released on January 2009 is the next level of J120i. The size is larger, 103 x 45 x 15.3 mm and weighs 76 grams. The clear display is also larger in size 1.5 inches. And the most fabulous part is the well-deigned dust-resistant keypad. J132 also has a flashlight (torch) feature which you can use as the source of light in dark places. Handsfree is already included in the Sony Ericsson J132 kit. It is functioning as the antenna to activate the FM Radio feature.

With the absence of camera, bluetooth, infrared, USB port, MP2 and MP3 players, Sony Ericsson J132 is considered a limited mobile. Only supported by a 2G network without GPRS and EDGE makes the web browsing impossible to do. However, J132 already has a 4 MB internal memory and a loudspeaker located behind the phone for stereo music performance. The cool navigation key contains shortcuts, right for alarm clock, left for text message, above for radio and under for phone book.

The candy bar J132 also has a simple design but with two color selections, Night Black and Heaven Blue, Sony Ericsson J132 is using a standard Li-Po 930 mAh battery which enables up to 9 hours talktime and 450 hours standby, certainly better that J120i’s battery. Sony Ericsson J132 only costs Rs.1,599 in India.

The slim Sony Ericsson J120i promises no fuss and no hassle

Built in size 99 x 44x 17 mm and weighs 75 grams, Sony Ericsson J120i is certainly tiny, handy and pocket-fit. Through its shortcuts, J120i makes calling, texting, and other applications very easy to access, just as simple as ABC. When you buy the Sony Ericsson J120i, you’ll also have the handsfree included in the kit. The handsfree is functioning as radio antenna for activating the FM Radio feature. It has 16 polyphonic tunes as ringtones or reminder, and a standard organizer menu with timer setting, alarm clock and calculator.

Released in early 2007, the candy bar J120i has a very simple design with only one color available, Night Black. The phone is actually very cheap for only Rs.1,850, maybe due to its limited features. No MP2 or MP3 available. No camera, or Bluetooth or infrared. And no GPRS or EDGE for web browsing. The phone is totally for making calls and texting.

However, the mini 1.36 inches display is clear, and its audio is very loud. The phonebook can store up to 200 entries. No external memory slot. For entertainment, J120i has FM Radio and games. Sony Ericsson J120i is using a standard Li-Ion battery which supports up to 9 hours talktime and 400 hours standby.

A solid phone for active life, the Sony Ericsson K330 comes with ‘torch’

Built in size 100 x 45 x 12 mm and weighs 75 grams, Sony Ericsson K330 is just a perfect handy mobile, very slim and light. The solid-built candy bar K330 is available in ‘Gold on Black’ and ‘Green on Black’ colors, with mostly black background. With these color selections, the phone is certainly a good pal for active people who sweat a lot, because the sweat will not affect the look of the phone. For emergency, you can also use the phone as a torch, just simply press 0 key then choose ‘torch’, then the white screen will be functioning as the torch in dark places.

K330’s VGA camera already has Night mode (turn on/off), Effects (Off, Black & white, Negative, Sepia), Picture quality (Fine, Standard, Economy), Picture size (Large, Small), Microphone for video recording, and Shoot mode (Normal, or for picture message). For watching video in full screen, simply press * key. Bluetooth is also there for transferring files. 

Press right navigation key for shortcut to activate the FM Radio. The handsfree is needed as the antenna for radio. You can turn the loudspeaker on or off, or switching the sound to mono or stereo while listening to the radio. The handsfree port is located on the top of the phone which is just perfect to make you feel comfortable in the pocket. It has a 10MB internal memory with no external memory slot to enhance the memory capacity. No MP3 player available.

Sony Ericsson K330 is supported by a 2G network with GPRS for web browsing, but no EDGE, 3G or WLAN available. It is using a standard Li-Po 770 mAh battery which enables up to 7 hours talktime and 300 hours standby. The torch phone is very cheap for only Rs.2,000.

Another stylish and affordable Sony Ericsson’s mobile, the K220i

All Sony Ericsson’s affordable mobiles come with VGA camera and infrared for transferring files. So does the candy bar Sony Ericsson K220i which is released on the previous February 2007. But at least K220i’s VGA camera is video recording enabled and its navigation key is very efficient : right is the shortcut for FM Radio, left is the shortcut for message, above is the shortcut for camera and under is the shortcut for phonebook.

Built in size 103 x 46 x 16 mm and weighs 82 grams, K220i is certainly handy and pocket-fit. Its slim and curved-edge designs are very elegant in Ocean Blue and Frost White colors. It also has a 1.6 inches crystal clear display. K220i has a conference call feature which enables a group of contacts to talk to one another on one call. Cool isn’t it?

No MP3 player for music feature, but there are FM Radio and fun games to entertain you. The internal memory is very limited with only 2 MB capacity and does not have external memory slot to enhance the memory capacity.
